“You’re sleeping in my room,” I told her as soon as I got off the phone with Hawk.
Adelie placed both of her feet, which had been tucked beneath her, on the floor.
“Uh—what?”
“Please.” I knelt in front of her. “We don’t have to share my bed—although, it’s big enough you could be on one side, and I’d be on the other and we’d never know it.”
“I’m a floppy sleeper,” she said. “I’ll probably cross the border without a passport.”
“You are not.”
“I am!”
I placed my phone on the floor and stopped her shaking knees with my hands. Adelie looked at me then.
“I’ll risk the leg toss,” I said. “Sleep with me.”
Her eyes widened. She inhaled. Sharply.
Well, that was right out there.
I sank back and cleared my throat while flames blasted my face.
“Ahem. In my room, I mean. Please.”
I eyed her. I wasn’t sure what I’d been thinking in that moment, but she was probably right. My thoughts were still on the whole leg thing.
“Fine,” she said on a breath, as if releasing some of her adrenaline with it. “We’ll draw an invisible line that you can’t cross, buster.”
She poked my chest with her finger--and I hoped that was a promise I could keep.
